There are four main treatises which form the basis of Indian philosophy. They are the RIG VEDA, YAJUR VEDA, SAMA VEDA and ATHARVA VEDA. The Rigveda is the oldest among the four. Ayurveda is believed to be a sub-section of the last veda- the Atharva veda. But references are found even in the oldest Rig veda. Ayurveda is believed to be originated from god named BRAHMA who is considered to be the creator of the universe. He memorized the science from the cosmic intelligence and passed on to other gods and sages to be utilized for their healthy living. Even now Ayurveda is the same as it was thousand of years ago. No one could so far change or alter any of the basic principles of the science. The relevance and authenticity of this treatment method remains the same.
In spite of the wars and invasions, the knowledge about this science was lost in most of the northern states of India. While it was well preserved by the physicians of Kerala, this explains the reasons it's purest form in Kerala.
